TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Hello, Mike Williams. Can I help you with anything today?
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: My name is Dan, how can I help?
Mike Williams: Please help... When I installed a MS Windows upgrade, I lost 2 of my 3 monitors. I rolled the updates back and got one of them working. I just can't get this LG running again. I can't convince Windows that the hardware is connected.
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: I see, what was the previous version of Windows and what did you update this to?
Mike Williams: I have tried the HDMI connection as well as the VGA port. Rebooted several times, etc.
Mike Williams: This machine is in win 7 p home.
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Does the LG monitor work alone with the PC?
Mike Williams: Have not tried that. My laptop does drive it
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Ok, please check to see if your Laptop will recognise the monitor on its own first then we can determine where the issue lies.
Mike Williams: How do I do that?
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Simply connect the monitor to your laptop using the VGA connection and inform us of the results.

Mike Williams: Tried that the other day... it worked fine

TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: I see ok, it may have been something to do with a graphics update on your Laptop, do you know what graphics processor your laptop uses?
 Mike Williams: not sure
Mike Williams: ATI Radeon HD 4600 series
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: I see, do you have the latest drivers for this processor?
 Mike Williams: searching that now
Mike Williams: yah, up to date
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Ah I see, please bear with me.
Mike Williams: no, I goofed. You asked about the laptop above... that works fine. I'm trying to make the desktop run 3 monitors again
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Ah I see, what graphics device does your desktop use please?
Mike Williams: thats the ATI card above
Mike Williams: and the driver is fine
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: I see, ok, does the Monitor work fine alone with this PC?
Mike Williams: again, I have not tried that. But the monitor does work
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Right ok, it is down to the output settings on the PC then.
Mike Williams: bingo! the OS doesn't find it attached
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Right, please bear with me so I can find what exactly in your PC could be causing this issue.
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: What is the exact model of the monitor please?
 Mike Williams: 1 sec
 Mike Williams: e2350v
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Ok, and you are using VGA from the PC to the monitor?
Mike Williams: tried vga and HDMI, using vga now
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Ok, do you have service pack 1 installed with your version of windows 7? Also do you have the latest system drivers?
Mike Williams: How di I find out about the SP1??
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: When you right click on MY COMPUTER and select properties, if it states your Windows 7 build is '7600', this is Windows 7 SP1?.
Mike Williams 11:35: Yes, SP 1 is there
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: I see, I find this really strange as you have the latest system software and that an update had been done prior to this issue.
Mike Williams 11:42: OK. Now can we get Windows to detect the monitor device?

TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Ok, please ensure your motherboard has the latest BIOS, also please make sure you have run windows update to ensure your system is fully up to date. Otherwise I would suggest talking to an ICT specialist as I'm afraid I can not determine where the fault actually lies in your PC.

Mike Williams 11:51: Will do, how do I find a ICT specialist?
TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: If you have any local computer store, they will be able to assist, I also suggest possibly downgrading your driver for your graphics device to the previous one to see if maybe the update was the cause of the issue.
Mike Williams 11:53: I did roll back the update that killed everything
Mike Williams: Is an ICT specialist found in a computer store?

cool

TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support: Usually in an independent store yes. Alternatively you can contact Microsoft support.
Mike Williams: cool. thanks for your efforts Dan. Bye
