Rejection 101 Current mood: contemplative Category: Life

I am going to attempt to put what I am feeling into a positive venture in this blog.

Let me start with this...

I normally do not buy magazines. I find them to usually be filled with too many advertisements and written in the context that a 12 year old could understand. However, in the August issue of Psychology Today there is an article that really hit home with me. Its called "Dumped, But Not Down" and it deals with rejection. Whether is a job prospect that the company decided you werent right for, or a realtionship that just abruptly ended and you're left out in the cold, we all go though times of of feeling"snubbed". Its how we handle the negative feeling it leaves behind is what is of importance here. We are helpless to change what was/is when dealing with the decisions of other people. I think the matter lies in not internalizing it and making what is simply someones choice and opinion, dictate how we see and percieve ourselves. Its too easy to get wrapped up in our heads, the sensation of spinning down the well of dispare only to find we are utterly alone. Rejection is a very personal thing, one in which we all experience in solitude. You can have a million friends, but when the feeling comes calling when it happens to you, you are truely on your own.

1) EXPECT REJECTION (INEVITABLE)

2) LEARN FROM PLAYGROUND POLITICS (POPULARITY)

3) IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU (EGO MINDED)

4) THE THING THEY HATE MAY BE THE THING YOU LOVE

5) LEARN TO LIVE WITH SHADES OF GRAY (AMBIVALANCE)

6) AVOID THE OVERTHINKING TRAP (SNOWBALLING ISSUES)

7) DON'T RUSH TO JUDGEMENT (HASTE AND HOSTILITY)
